Globetrotter dreams: From the coast of Ahangama to Polonnaruwa

Sri Lanka, also known as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean", offered us an unforgettable journey through breathtaking landscapes, rich culture and captivating history.

This impressive masterpiece of architecture not only connects the landscape, but also our hearts.
Shrouded in fog: the breathtaking Nine Arches Bridge

In just five days, our journey of discovery took us from the coast in Ahangama to the ancient ruins in Polonnaruwa and back again. Immerse yourself in our adventure:

Day 1 - From Ahangama to Ella

Our journey began in Ahangama, a charming little coastal town. Early in the morning, we made our way towards Ella. On the way, we stopped in the picturesque village of Ella, where we were mesmerised by the breathtaking Nine Arches Bridge. The lush green hills and peaceful atmosphere mesmerised us from the start. We spent our first night in Ella, eager to see what lay ahead.

Day 2 - Ella to Kandy

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the train journey from Ella to Nuwara Eliya. The journey took us through breathtaking tea plantations, where the views were simply spectacular. In Nuwara Eliya, we immersed ourselves in Sri Lanka's vibrant culture and visited the famous Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. Our night in Kandy was characterised by peace and quiet.

Day 3 - From Kandy to Sigiriya

Our next destination was the Dambulla cave temple. The fascinating cave paintings and statues left us speechless. After this spiritual experience, we continued our journey and reached Sigiriya. The majestic Sigiriya fortress awaited us here. The climb was challenging, but the view from the top rewarded us handsomely. Our accommodation in Sigiriya put us right in the centre of history.

Day 4 - Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa

In the early morning, we visited the Sigiriya fortress again, this time at sunrise. The golden rays of the rising sun bathed the impressive frescoes and the lion's paw staircase in a magical light. We felt transported back in time.

After this inspiring experience, we continued our journey and reached Polonnaruwa. This historic city fascinated us with its ancient ruins, palaces and temples. The stone Buddhas and ancient statues bear witness to Sri Lanka's rich history.

Day 5 - Return to Ahangama

Our journey was slowly coming to an end. We used the morning to explore the impressive ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Visiting the historical sites and temples awakened our curiosity for Sri Lanka's history.

In the afternoon, we began our return journey to Ahangama, which took about six hours. As we reviewed the many memories we had collected on this trip, we looked forward to the prospect of arriving at our accommodation, Ebony Boutique Villa. It is a place of comfort and hospitality that rounded off our trip perfectly.
